Gallbladder mucocoele and concurrent hepatic lipidosis in a cat

Sue Bennett and others, University of Melbourne

A three-year-old male neutered domestic shorthair was presented with weight loss, anorexia and icterus. Feline hepatic lipidosis and gallbladder mucocoele were diagnosed. The latter condition is common in dogs but has not been reported previously in a feline patient. The patient was managed successfully with cholecystojejunostomy, gastrostomy tube placement and tube feeding for a period of three months. The cat has survived for many months with minimal complications.
