Sarcoptes scabiei and Psoroptes cuniculi are common ectoparasites of rabbits, with the former causing alopecia and dermatitis and the latter responsible for severe dermatitis and otitis. The authors assessed the efficacy of selamectin against these parasites.
Groups of New Zealand and Angora rabbits were given a minimum dose of 6mg/kg bodyweight and examined regularly over the next eight weeks.
Treated rabbits were found to have significantly fewer mites on skin scraping or otoscopy than those given vehicle alone.
