Independent, flexible and supportive - new grad or taking next steps ?

Job Description

All of our vets - whether recent grad or 30 years qualified - receive support tailored to their needs, along with a fantastic package of benefits. New grads have a designated VetGDP Adviser for the day-to-day, along with access to the well-regarded XLVets Graduate Development Programme. Mentoring for more experienced grads is moulded to the individual's needs, with practical in-house scanning sessions, theatre-scrub-ins, monthly clinical club discussion groups, or just regular one-to-one chats.

Our team of 15 vets includes several Certificate holders along with a wealth of experience, covering imaging, surgery, medicine, dermatology, feline practice (being Gold Cat Friendly) and ECC. We recently extended, providing dedicated areas for our 2 scanners and digital x-ray, plus a designated dental room with dental x-ray, and separate cat, dog and isolation wards. There's even a staff pet kennel area!

There is no night work, as we've been using a local OOH provider for 20 years. Late evening shifts are shared fairly across the team, and the Saturday rota is 1 in 4. An experienced colleague is always rota-ed alongside new/recent grads to provide hands-on support.

Offering genuinely flexible working is a big part of looking after our team, so if you don't want a standard working pattern, just tell us what you do want, and we'll see what we can do! Our benefits include:

  • New grad starting salary of £34k, rising to £75k dependent on experience /qualifications /skills /responsibilities (based on 41.5 hours per week full-time)
  • Part-time and flexible working arrangements welcomed
  • Overtime paid at £35/hour
  • Enhanced Maternity Pay
  • Standard CPD allowance of £2,000 and 5 days off each year (regularly stretched for Certs and some other courses)
  • 6 weeks holiday per annum, plus 1 extra day for each year of service
  • 1 paid Volunteering Day per year
  • Enhanced sickness pay
  • Vitality Private Medical Insurance
  • Health cash plan membership
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • Workplace pension (NEST)
  • Cost price own pet treatment
  • BSAVA or BVA subscription paid
  • RCVS retention fee and VDS cover paid
  • Career breaks/sabbaticals/unpaid leave available
  • Monthly team meetings
  • Regular one-to-ones as requested/required
  • Organised practice Summer and Christmas events, and we’re a social bunch, enjoying catching-ups for walks, meals, Escape Rooms, mini-golf etc
We're looking for GP vets with excellent communication skills, whether at the start of their career, or further along.
