Veterinary Surgeon required at Mckenzie Vets

Job Description

Part-time Veterinary Surgeon

Mckenzie Vets, Alexandria

Salary up to £30,000 FTE depending on experience plus a relocation allowance up to £1,000

Do you want to be part of a small, friendly team where everyone looks out for each other, and we believe in having fun while we work?

Do you want to get to know your patients and their owners individually so you can give them the very best professional and compassionate care while forming rewarding relationships?

Do you want to work in an environment where kindness is always our first priority?

If so, Mckenzie’s is the place for you. A rare opportunity has arisen for a part-time Veterinary Surgeon to join our small but mighty team!

About the role

We are looking for a part-time Vet, ideally with some experience, to work 2 full days a week and one Saturday morning in 5 (we are closed Saturday afternoons and Sundays) – this gives a great work-life balance.

Our normal working day is from 8.30am to 7pm but we are very willing to be flexible with the hours for the right candidate. There is no on-call as our out of hours is provided by Vets Now (we are also closed most bank holidays).

Our Vets typically have one (occasionally two if wanted) operating day a week until about 2.30pm and otherwise consulting time, however surgery is not essential. We work hard to keep case continuity but believe strongly in working as a team, so help is always available, especially for difficult cases, and we have clinical meetings weekly and time set aside each day for lab reporting etc.

About Mckenzie Vets

Mckenzie Vets is situated in Alexandria, close to the beauty of Loch Lomond but in easy reach of Glasgow. Many things have changed over the years but our reputation for giving excellent care to our patients remains. We believe that the key to this is in building a strong team of caring, enthusiastic people and we really value our fantastic staff.

We have lots of modern equipment to enable us to give the best possible service, including digital radiography, dental radiography and new dental machine, ultrasound, K-laser, multiparameter monitor and fully equipped lab. We offer acupuncture and have a visiting surgeon who will do orthopaedics.

The practice has a Silver Cat Friendly Award, RCVS General Practice Award and we work under Fear Free principles meaning the majority of our patients are happy to come and see us.

We are 100% small animal, but this includes some exotics and sometimes turtles and otters from Loch Lomond Sea Life Centre – there is no pressure to see exotics as our vet Nadia has a special interest, but it makes for a bit of excitement! Being rural, we are lucky to have a varied selection of pets in all sizes, shapes, and breeds.

Meet our amazing team!

Mckenzies has a lovely team made up of 4 Veterinary Surgeons, 4 Registered Veterinary Nurses, a Student Veterinary Nurse (soon to be qualified), a Veterinary Care Assistant, a Practice Manager and a team of Receptionists. Many of our staff have been with us for a long time and there’s a fair bit of banter going on!

We believe in having fun while we work and enjoy fitting in the occasional Christmas Fuddle, afternoon tea on a bus round Glasgow or Great Mckenzies Bake Off as well as raising money for charity by taking part in the Kilt Walk, Shine Walk and cake sales for Macmillan. We have held Pet First Aid classes, have had a stand at the Drymen Show and have plans for more events.
