Job Description

Job Description

Your role and responsibilities

This is a fantastic role for an all-around GP Vet Surgeon looking for a rewarding position. It would also suit someone who wants to explore the practices at Calder before taking a fixed role.

This is a unique opportunity to enjoy the flexibility of locum life with the benefits of being an employee. Here's a bit more about us:

We are looking for an experienced Vet who loves variety to work at our external clinics on a changing rota with some Guaranteed time at the main hospital to develop clinical interests.

The position requires someone happy to work sole charge at sites doing first opinion work, as well as being comfortable in a thriving team hospital environment.

The role involves all elements of  small animal work to include consulting, routine surgery plus involvement in urgent and emergency cases as needed. We have a large team with many areas of expertise such as imaging and surgery available for support and guidance. You would be provided with a rota at least 6 weeks in advance and you would work an average of 40hours per week over the year with 6.6 weeks holiday and no weekends or OOH. Part time could be considered on request.

Our ethos is clinical excellence and we try and live by our core values. Client and patient care are at the heart of what we do, and we are proud to be Cat-Friendly in many of our clinics. We run on 15-minute consults as a minimum.

  • Excellent salary package up to £65,000 commensurate with experience (including RCVS fees paid, and £2,000 CPD allowance)
  • Linnaeus CPD Programme (including certificate holder level and leadership CPD)
  • 5 weeks holiday plus bank holidays and Birthday Leave
  • RCVS and VDS fees paid
  • Extensive free online Linnaeus CPD program
  • Career progression opportunities
  • Staff discount schemes
  • Life Assurance
  • Enhanced sickness pay
  • Enhanced equal family leave
  • E-car salary sacrifice scheme
  • Employer contribution pension scheme
  • Wellness program including:
    • Employee assistance program
    • Eyecare voucher scheme
    • Free annual Flu jab
    • Cycle to work scheme
  • Recruitment referral reward scheme
  • Relocation package

At Linnaeus, we are committed to supporting the physical and mental health of all our Associates. We have an amazing team of Mental Health First Aiders (MHFA) across our practices and central support office in addition to a confidential Employee Assistance Programme which is available for everyone.

About Us

Calder Vets is a high-quality primary care and referral practice with 11 clinics across South and West Yorkshire, including a 24/7 Tier 3 Hospital. We are proud to provide our own 24-hour on-site emergency care through our dedicated ECC night team. We offer a full range of primary care services, such as consultations, preventative healthcare, vaccinations, routine and non-routine surgery, dentistry and imaging (x-ray, ultrasound). We are also able to offer some advanced services such as laparoscopy, endoscopy, soft tissue and orthopaedic surgeries, cardiology, ophthalmology and CT, and we have our own rehabilitation service with physiotherapy, hydrotherapy and laser therapy.

We have a fantastic team across all of our sites, and we all support each other. We often discuss clinical cases and get involved in social events. We have a large vet team and are supported by fantastic nursing and front-of-house teams. Many of our vets are working towards certificates in surgery, imaging, dermatology, cardiology and ophthalmology.
