Veterinary Surgeon required at Pool House Equine Clinic
The Role
Here at Pool House Vets, we have a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic Vet to join our busy Ambulatory Practice. Following the relocation of one of our long-term employees, we need a vet who is anxious to develop the skills needed in ambulatory practice and relishes the challenge of overseeing their own cases. Our ambulatory vets are supported by a large team of specialists, residents, and interns at our clinic, whilst having a wide range of equine clientele from leading show jumpers to child’s first pony.
This role is 100% EQUINE, based primarily in our ambulatory practice, we are happy to offer a competitive salary for this role of up to £50,000 depending on experience.

About Us
Pool House Equine Clinic is in Lichfield only a short drive from the Derbyshire Dales and the Peak District National Park. With easy access to the motorway network, two mainline railway stations and Birmingham International Airport, Lichfield is almost literally the center of England.Our Equine Clinic is composed of two GA operating theatres and two standing theatres, a large preparation area including 3 x DR digital X-ray processing, two examination/radiography rooms and four sets of stocks. There is stabling for up to 34 horses and all classes of the horse are cared for. We have a Hallmarq MRI system. Other equipment includes mobile X-Ray machines, multiple ultrasound machines, laser surgery, arthroscopy, laparoscope, shock wave machines, 3m digital gastroscope and two 1.4m fibreoptic endoscopes. We have an in-house laboratory covering an extensive range of tests, along with excellent RVN support.The equine veterinary team consists of 21 full-time vets, of which are six residents and five interns. We have two European Diplomats in Equine Surgery. One European Diplomat in Equine Dentistry and one part-time European Diplomat in Equine Internal Medicine. There are five other RCVS certificate holders.
About the Team and Culture
The practice is an Associate teaching Practice of the University of Nottingham giving access to university specialists in addition to our own team of ECVS diplomats. On our staff, we have two specialists in equine surgery and one in dentistry. We have residents in sports medicine, surgery, dentistry, and internal medicine. We have embedded University of Nottingham specialists in equine medicine, and all our clinical directors hold RCVS certificates in equine practice and other relevant disciplines. The practice has been established in the local community for more than 150 years and has many connections to community activities including the annual Sheriffs ride and many local equestrian events. We have won the Lichfield Cathedral best Christmas Tree competition every year for the last 7 years (except in 2020 when it was cancelled due to Covid). We provide speakers for school events and sponsor community activities. We are a 'green' practice with our own solar farm and use air source heat pumps for our energy, and we are gradually switching to electric vehicles.
Applicant Requirements
The job would be ideal for someone looking to develop good client relationships and with basic skills that we can build on to make themself a self-sufficient and confident equine veterinary surgeon. Must be registered with the RCVS. We are used to helping European vets work in the UK environment and in integrating them into our multi-cultural team of vets.
