Job Description

Cherrydown Vets are looking for an experienced Vet Surgeon to join their team in Basildon, Essex.

Are you looking to join a team of progressive and forward-thinking clinicians?

Are you looking for a great work/life balance as well as delivering outstanding care?

We are looking for an experienced Vet, with a keen interest in all areas of small animal first opinion work. We believe in supporting and investing in our staff, investing in our facilities, and ensuring that our clients and their pets receive only the very best, modern first opinion. We are very proud of our achievements and our reputation in the veterinary profession.

Our Vision - "To be recognised as an exceptional and trusted provider of primary veterinary care to our patients and clients within the communities that we serve. "Every patient, every client, every visit".

Hours and package

  • 4 day week, however, genuinely flexible for the right candidate
  • 1 in 3 Saturday clinics
  • No OOH or bank holidays
  • Salary up to £65,000 (dependent on experience)

Our hospital and practices are very popular with an excellent variety of cases. We have a great clinical and non-clinical team dedicated to ensuring the needs of animals and clients are met and the customer journey is excellent. Our vets are based at our Basildon hospital where they would be on a rota for either consults, ops or hospital vet days. We have a digital x-ray, new ultrasound machine, new endoscopes and a designated dental suite.

Why join us

  • Highly experienced nurse team
  • Varied caseload
  • Excellent facilities to provide excellent, round-the-clock care
  • Certificates encouraged and supported
  • Genuine family feel
  • Great rotas
  • Cat-friendly status.
  • We have a focus on recognition and awareness, most recently furthering our mental health and menopause support

Our vets ideally need to be proficient in both medicine and surgery but special interests are catered for. Career progression opportunities are available dependent on experience. Our staff are motivated and encouraged to gain additional certifications across all levels, we have a high SA caseload so interests in small animal surgery, internal medicine, ophthalmology, and diagnostic imaging are most welcome.

Cherrydown is "collaborative" with a focus on continuous improvement, achieved through open conversations with a supportive, no-blame culture.

For Vets looking to join an excellent nursing team, you can find no better than here at Cherrydown. A lot of the ideas are nurse-driven and we respect our nurses as they help drive forward those changes, with support from an experienced team of PCA's. This is exemplified by the cat-friendly status we have achieved at the clinic because of the dedication of two of our nurses in particular. We are now looking at working towards rabbit friendly Rabbit Welfare Association and Fund (RWAF) award. It has also led to procedural changes to improve patient care and overall standards.

Benefits include

  • 5 weeks holiday plus bank holidays and Birthday Leave
  • RCVS and VDS fees paid
  • External CPD funded
  • Extensive free online Linnaeus CPD program
  • Career progression opportunities
  • Staff discount schemes
  • Life Assurance
  • Enhanced sickness pay
  • Enhanced equal family leave
  • E-car salary sacrifice scheme
  • Employer contribution pension scheme
  • Recruitment referral reward scheme
  • Wellness program including:
