Independent practice where clinical freedom and patient care come first

Job Description

Experienced Veterinary Surgeon Wanted in Edinburgh

The Veterinary Wellness Centre is a 2-year-old independent practice that does things a little differently.

We embody contextualised care, taking the time to really get to know every client and patient as unique individuals. This results in effusively grateful clients, brilliant patient outcomes, and a genuine “big family” feeling in the practice.

This role is a conventional small-animal clinical position. We are looking for a confident and competent vet who enjoys first-opinion medicine, surgery, dentistry, and case work-ups. Our owner/director, Dr Miriam Main BVM&S MRCVS, provides all holistic and integrative therapies (e.g., acupuncture, herbal medicine, regenerative treatments), so you do not need holistic training — just an open mind and a commitment to excellent, evidence-based care.

We combine cutting-edge medicine and surgery with complementary and regenerative therapies, including acupuncture, herbal medicine, LASER therapy, and stem cell treatment. Our emphasis on fitness and quality of life is supported by an on-site rehab suite with an underwater treadmill, Strideway pressure-plate gait analysis, and RAMP veterinary physiotherapists.

Our team is our greatest asset, and we invest heavily in personal and professional growth. If you have a special interest (imaging, dentistry, surgery, or anaesthesia) this is the place to develop, supported by modern equipment, progressive leadership, and a culture of evidence-based excellence. Sustainability is central to our practice, from our low-flow anaesthetic systems to our comprehensive recycling initiatives.

What We’re Looking For

An experienced vet who enjoys the variety of first-opinion practice and can handle everything from kitten vaccines to emergency splenectomies.

A team player engaged with clinical governance and quality improvement.

Someone confident to work sole charge safely when required.

A vet who loves both patients and clients, recognising that great service leads to great care.

A curious, open-minded clinician eager to innovate and drive standards forward.

What We Offer

A diverse, supportive team passionate about excellent patient care.

Highly bonded clients who love coming to see us.

Hands-on directors who support both team and patients.

Uncompromising clinical standards and an environment that encourages growth.

Job security in a rapidly growing practice with exciting future plans.

ISFM Gold Cat Friendly Clinic, Zero Pain certification in progress, and Low Stress Handling techniques in daily use.

6 weeks holiday, paid sick leave, regular salary reviews, and generous funded CPD.

Potential future partnership opportunities for the right candidate.

Full-time or part-time time, finding the right person is key

Competitive salary from £42,000+ for 2+ years qualified

Location

We’re on the East side of Edinburgh, ideally placed between Edinburgh, East Lothian, and Midlothian. Enjoy the best of both worlds — the culture and amenities of the capital, and the beaches, countryside, and village charm of the surrounding area.

Having worked in a huge variety of practices throughout my career, I’ve worked hard to create a true ‘dream practice’ and ‘dream job’ for the right person. It really can, and does, exist. Take that leap and apply today; you won’t regret it.”
