Be the vet you always dreamed you would be when you were little…
We are an independent, two-branch, truly mixed practice in southern Scotland. Our building may need a lick of paint and there may be a pothole (or two) in the forecourt, but it would appear that our growing client base cares more for the warm greeting and banter at the front desk, our attention to detail and our quality of service, than how we look on the outside.
We're looking for another permanent vet for our Biggar branch, to bring our complement back up to five, or we would consider somebody who is looking for a maternity cover position. Our time is divided fairly equally between large and companion animals, with a little equine. Yes, we do our own on-call, shared between us, which equates to one weeknight a week, with one Saturday morning and one full weekend in a five week block. You will get an afternoon off in the week and a full 28 days of holiday/year. We have a new practice management system; digital x-ray; ultrasound (one small animal and two large animal scanners); endoscope; IDEXX biochemistry, haematology, Snap and electrolyte machines and a dedicated wet room for large animal procedures.
Ideally you would have some experience, but we would certainly consider a motivated, more recent graduate with good all-round skills. As an independent, non-corporate practice, we do not impose targets on our vets: you may enjoy clinical freedom, with as much support from the team as you need, 24 hours per day. We would be delighted to support any ongoing education interests that you may have and, on top of that, we will pay you a good salary, commensurate with your experience, with accommodation and a car if you would like them.
Biggar is a thriving and growing town in South Lanarkshire. We have a good school, a good rugby club and a busy high street with many independent retailers and cafes. There is the opportunity for a wide variety of outdoor pursuits on the doorstep, whether it be on foot, two wheels or on horseback. On top of all that, we are less than an hour away from two of the most exciting and interesting cities in the UK, each with an excellent vet school to top up those CPD hours - fully funded, of course.
No question, first opinion, mixed animal work is tough. But if you want it, there is the opportunity to immerse yourself into the community as a highly valued individual performing an essential service. It doesn't get more rewarding than that...
If you have any questions about this position, please don't hesitate to contact David on the email/phone number provided, or simply send an application via email with a CV and covering letter. We really look forward to hearing from you.
