Oral view of a dog shortly after a pharyngeal stick injury.
A stick fragment is protruding from the left pharyngeal wall (region of tonsillar crypt).
The fragment is shown after extraction.
Injuries in this region may not require further exploration (cervical radiographs are useful to check for the development of emphysema).
This dog was managed by local probing and closure of the mucosal defect after flushing.
