Canine Elbow. Moderate OA. Cranio-caudal view

Cranio-Caudal: 15 month old Rottweiler
Note the positioning - poor positioning of elbow radiographs significantly reduces their diagnostic value.
Until elbow OA is well advanced, the cranio-caudal view remains almost normal.
Early signs to look for are osteophytes (unevenness) along the medial and lateral "skylines" of the distal humeral condyle.
Occasionally the humero-ulnar joint "space" appears rather narrower than the humero-radial perhaps consistent with cartilage and subchondral erosion.
