This shows an echo from a cat with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). Obtained from the standard right parasternal long axis view. Note the marked hypertrophy of the left ventricle (septum and free wall) and consequently a smaller LV chamber size than normal. There is minimal left atrial dilation in this case. There is systolic anterior motion (SAM) of the anterior mitral valve cusp in mid-systole. Thus this cat has hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM). The still image below shows the moment the cusp (and it's chordae tendineae) is pulled towards the outflow tract (arrowed). Its virtually impossible to visualise this on the movie above, and hence a slow replay of the cine-loop on the ultrasound machine  (with a high frame rate) is needed to appreciate this.
