Same view as the previous movie (20) but with colour Doppler. This shows normal laminar flow out (downwards) through the aorta.

The still image below shows a systolic frame.

Note that downward flow is colour coded blue. However because the limits of the colour scale is 0.79m/s and the velocity of flow through the aorta exceeds this, the faster (core) flow is colour coded red (it has not changed direction). This is referred to as aliasing. (This is a similar effect of the wheels of a car appearing to go backwards at some speeds either on television, or when looking at the passing car on the motorway.)

This is also a good view for obtaining alignment with flow through the aortic valve. The still image below shows a spectral Doppler velocity tracing of flow through the aortic valve. The peak velocity in this dog is 1.5m/s.
