A three-year-old female neutered domestic shorthair cat presented with exophthalmus and an ipsilateral subzygomatic soft tissue mass.

The extent of the lesion was determined using magnetic resonance imaging before complete surgical resection was performed.

Examination of the mass showed it to be a retrobulbar teratoma, a rare germ-cell lesion that may be uncommonly found at extragonadal sites. It has not been reported previously in this location in a cat.

Treatment was successful and there have been no signs of recurrence.
