&lt;p align="left"&gt;Atopic dermatitis in both human and canine patients is a difficult and frustrating condition to manage. Any effective therapies like steroids and allergen immunotherapy are expensive or have long-term side effects while safer therapies like antihistamines are frequently ineffective. In a guest editorial, the author reviews latest research on fatty acid metabolism in dogs and its potential relevance for the development of effective nutraceutical-based treatments based on conjugated linoleic acid.&lt;/p&gt;
