Tara Trotman and others, University of Philadelphia

A six-year-old spayed female domestic shorthair presented with a three-week history of inappetence, weight loss and hiding. It was found to have a palpable abdominal fluid wave, dehydration and a small tear on the left flank. When restrained for examination a further tear opened on the dorsal neck.

Histopathology and indirect immunohistochemistry confirmed a diagnosis of feline infectious peritonitis with hepatic lipidosis. Feline skin fragility syndrome was also noted, a condition not previously associated with FIP.
