Propofol is an injectable anaesthetic with properties that make it attractive for use in those animals needing surgical treatment on consecutive days. However, doubts have been expressed about the effects of repeat administration on erythrocyte physiology in cats. The authors assessed the safety of this agent in 37 cats anaesthetised on consecutive days for radiotherapy on squamous cell carcinomas or vaccine-associated sarcomas. They say there was no evidence of any clinically relevant haematological changes in these patients.
