A new anaesthesia internship beginning in October 2019

Job Description

Anaesthesia Intern

Fitzpatrick Referrals Oncology and Soft Tissue hospital is seeking applications for its new anaesthesia internship beginning in October 2019.

We are a purpose-built specialist referral hospital in Guildford Surrey, dedicated to expert care, innovative clinical decision-making and compassionate communication. Our facilities are state-of-the-art and include four operating theatres with Datex Ohmeda monitoring and Aestiva 5 and Datex Ohmeda S/5 anaesthetic machines, a 160-slice CT scanner, C-arm fluoroscopy, an interventional radiology suite, minimally-invasive surgical equipment, cystoscopy, endoscopy, bronchoscopy, dedicated chemotherapy preparation and administration rooms, ultrasonography, digital radiography and a full in-house laboratory.

Due to the continued growth of the hospital, applications are invited from veterinary surgeons with relevant postgraduate experience for the position of anaesthesia intern.

You will work under the direct supervision and guidance of Drs. Enzo Minghella Dip ECVAA, DVM, MRCVS and Daisy Norgate BVetMed, MRCVS. The anaesthesia intern will also work with a team of other specialists (including Diplomates of ACVS / ECVS / ECVIM / ACVIM/ECVDI), ECVS surgical residents, rotating interns, radiographers, clinical research assistants, nurses and auxiliaries.

This 12-month post will provide training in all aspects of anaesthesia and analgesia for secondary and tertiary referrals. Duties will involve daily collaboration with all clinical and non-clinical teams as part of a busy hospital.

Active involvement with clinical research is encouraged, leading towards a peer-reviewed publication. Upon completing the program, you will have gained confidence and competence in complex anaesthesia and analgesia protocols and therefore the post is ideally suited for candidates considering residency training in anaesthesia.

The successful candidate must be a graduated veterinary surgeon and preferably have completed a one-year rotating internship or at least two years of general small animal practice. In addition, you will be care driven, have excellent communication skills, be exceptionally organised, thorough and be able to operate in a 24/7 team environment.

First stage interviews will take place shortly after the closing date (in person or by video).

For informal discussions, please contact Professor Nick Bacon, Clinical Director: or tel. 01483 668100.

To apply, please email your CV and a covering letter to stating which role you are applying for in the email subject line by Thursday 30th May 2019.

First stage interviews will take place week commencing 10 June with second and final stage week commencing 24 June 19.
