Rotating Interns – Guildford

Fitzpatrick Referrals Oncology and Soft Tissue hospital is seeking applications for its rotating internships beginning in October 2019.

We are a purpose-built specialist referral hospital in Guildford Surrey, dedicated to expert care, innovative clinical decision-making and compassionate communication. Our facilities are state-of-the-art and include four operating theatres with Datex Ohmeda monitoring and Aestiva 5 and Datex Ohmeda S/5 anaesthetic machines, a 160-slice CT scanner, C-arm fluoroscopy, an interventional radiology suite, minimally-invasive surgical equipment, cystoscopy, endoscopy, bronchoscopy, dedicated chemotherapy preparation and administration rooms, ultrasonography, digital radiography and a full in-house laboratory.

This post will provide exposure and training in surgical oncology, medical oncology, soft tissue surgery, interventional radiology/oncology and diagnostic imaging. You will be required to assist with consultations, client communication, diagnostic procedures and surgical procedures/interventions alongside daily care of patients.

Active involvement with clinical research is encouraged and weekly seminars augment clinical learning.

The successful candidate must be a graduated Veterinary Surgeon and preferably have completed a 12 month rotating internship or at least two years of general small animal practice (consideration will be given to exceptional new graduates). The post would be suitable for someone considering pursuing a Residency position (3 previous post holders have been successful in obtaining residencies this year). In addition you should be care driven, have excellent communication skills, be organised and be able to operate in a 24/7 team environment.

The five successful candidates will split duties equally between routine surgeries, critical patient care, emergency surgeries, interventional radiology, diagnostic imaging and OOH night/weekend duties (time off in lieu).

Interviews will be held on Tuesday 25 June 2019.

Located in Guildford on the Surrey Research Park, FROST is ideally located adjacent to the University of Surrey School of Veterinary Medicine, the St. Luke’s Cancer Centre, and The Royal Surrey Hospital. It is well served by both Gatwick and Heathrow airports and is within 30 minutes of central London via train.

Off-site accommodation is available if required.
