A Rainbow trout fish farmer claims weight gaining has stopped in his fish.

Culture size: small-scaled farming

Culture type: super-intensive, open-air raceway

Water quality was considered as acceptable despite the excessive amounts of some organic materials. Hence, no exposure to possible pollution is expected. Some table size rainbow trout were kept as samples. We visually observed significant increase of mucus on gills but the internal organs were considered as normal. We suspect some possible parasitic infestation on the basis of our observation on wet-mount prepared from fresh fish gills. These possible parasites were urceolate-shaped. We neither observe cluster formation nor any motility. No bacterial growth was observed on blood agar containing liver, kidney and spleen extract. We suspect Trichodiniasis due to our experience. What's your possible diagnosis? Which further clinical tests are recommended?

To leave any comment is appreciated. Regards, Ahmadreza
