My stock reply is tradition, but why do we?

I can't find this answer, but is the right ovary more cranial than the left as in a bitch?

Cat spays can be tight especially to get below the ovary, so wouldn't doing them from the right flank be easier? You have less far to get that ovary to the incision.

I have heard of one vet that does them from the right.

Has collateral ligament damage but no fractures. Went to OOH and referred. The referral plan was to get the wound to granulate, do a skin graft then pancarpal arthrodesis in a few months, estimated at about 8k. After 5 days at the referral hospital, the owner cannot afford referral rates and the case has been discharged to me to carry on the dressings. I am happy with the progress after two bandage changes and I am hopeful that the antebrachium may heal without grafting. My concern is the carpus; what would you do on a budget? The owner does not want to entertain mention of amputation.

Thanks

Canine malocclusion

I saw a 1yr 3mnt male neutered miniature pinscher for booster vac today and noticed tooth 204 to be displaced rostrally, pressing on 203 (picture attached). Also seems to have laterally displaced the mandibular canine. I can't think of any treatment for this apart from extraction of 204. Given the age and degree of malocclusion, would referral to a dental specialist be of any use? I have read of some procedures involving tension devices to force the tooth to a normal position.

Bearded Dragon Skin Lesion

Ed's note: This case was originally uploaded in May 2014, before the galleries were opened for case submissions.

Six year old male Beardie seen a few days ago. The swelling started more than 8 weeks ago and the Beardie has been on treatment for stomatitis for at least 8 weeks with oral Baytril and daily iodine wipes at another practice. He is also bathed at least twice daily and the rest of the husbandry seems optimum. The lesion has not changed much over the treatment period and the dragon is otherwise BAR, eating and drinking normal and the rest of the skin appears normal. The lesion seems to be cutaneous/thickened skin and there is no discharge. Samples sent for culture came back negative.

I do not have much experience on this kind of thing but referral is not an option due to funding. I do not see the sense of continuing with oral Baytril and would appreciate any help on how to proceed.

VetSurgeon.org
