We did LE - JOG in June 2003 over 12 days cycling. We carried our own gear - no support and went from pub to pub for overnight stops. Fabulous trip, great fun, but 8 days sound really hardcore. And N to S is into the teeth of the gale!

Re: John O'Groats to Lands End for charity

LOL - nice one Wren - that's a fair amount to walk - doubt I could walk for more than a couple of days TBH! I think were all odd ;)

Re: John O'Groats to Lands End for charity

I thought that JOGLE was the sensible direction to take as you're heading down the map and have gravity on your side

Anyway - respect! I walked the 191mile coast-to-coast last summer for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Did it on my own and fancy another go running/walking to shave a few days off it though I don't think I'd ever get close to the record! I find that once you start on these 'challenges' they get a bit addictive. I did meet a couple of walkers who'd done LEJOG but they tend to be slightly odd types - as befits those who have a spare couple of months to go for a ramble!

Re: John O'Groats to Lands End for charity

That's what I understand Simon - start with the worst potential weather was our thought?

Re: John O'Groats to Lands End for charity

In theory the prevailing winds blow from south to north mainly, so it SHOULD be easier to do LEJOG than JOGLE. That said many think it makes little difference and do it in reverse as the overall weather should improve as you head south.

That's as I understand it based on my limited research anyway!

My husband is planning to do lejog, but won't do it in reverse cos he's worried about headwinds.
