Ive had my Motic microscope for 9 years and its still going strong. Would recommend it to anyone

I agree, we have had ours for a similar time and have only just needed to change the halogen bulb. It also has good flat-field lenses and a built-in camera with USB connection and software for attaching a computer. Gives excellent results when recording blood films. Genuine Leitz and Zeiss are certainly the gold standard, and Olympus are good too but unless you do a lot of high definition micro-photography it is difficult to see their advantages over the cheaper microscopes for routine practice work.

My only issue is with the stage which is getting a bit cranky, like its owner. Now I have an address for someone to check it over I will try to get that sorted!

Re: Microscopes
We have a nice, second-hand Leitz. Most of the cheap microscopes aren't worth the money (see our previous one...)
+1 - I'd also go for a decent second hand major brand like Leitz, Leica, Zeiss, Nikon if you can - contact their sales and see if they have any ex-demo or trade-ins?
