Do you feel represented when all these decisions are made above

Re: Do you feel loved?

I have to say i do not feel that I am represented by either body. The changes to the pet passport scheme were notified as a fait accompli. I heard about it on VetSurgeon and the BVA notification crawled hours behind.

Where was the information for discussion prior to the decision being made? Was the BVA and the veterinary profession just by-passed as irrelevant to government?

RCVS? Not worth passing much comment about them - most has been said elsewhere! Has there been an update on the overspend? At least it was not half a billion as wasted on a Fire Brigade computer that was never commissioned!

As long as my clients 'love' me by coming through my door then I am appreciated. As to the grand scheme of things in the profession it is the blind leading the blind. Shame there seems to be a lack of gonads at the 'top' of the profession!

Re: Do you feel loved?
So do you feel loved? or shall I go back to the happy place in my head and finish my beer?
Drinking in the day Mark? Aren't we supposed to report you to the RCVS for these sorts of things?

There is no representation from above when it comes to pay and conditions because the profession is not joined up, it's a battle between employer/employee for most of these issues. The BVA have spent many man hours trying to get us a better deal with TT testing, yet have failed. I'm not saying I don't value the work but it has got us nowhere.

A union is a great idea if we work together, but we don't. How I would love an employee strike over pay and conditions or if the entire profession said NO to TT testing unless they pay us an hourly rate then we would get somewhere. As a profession we are too accommodating and tend to take what's offered rather than dig out heels in and get what we want/need/deserve. Look at the BMA's negotiations with government, they got agreement for more pay for less hours and no OOH!
