She decided the tortoise was so dangerously underweight, she called the RSPCA. Unfortunately, she had used a tape measure, and measured the curvature of the tortoise's shell, not a straight ruler, and her calculations were wrong...

Figured a 4 month old puppy with dislocated/fractured jaw and causally displaced molars on the same side was something requiring more than medical treatment. And with no way of contacting the owners I thought it was the best way to proceed.

Re: Wasting my time...

[quote user="Evelyn Barbour-Hill"]

Are you guys saying you call the RSPCA every time you say something needs treating but the patient doesn't show up?

No! I've called the RSPCA twice in 10 years, it has to be as a last resort when I've tried to get the client to realise the pet is suffering and needs treatment. I don't mind which practice treats the pet as long as it gets the treatment it needs, what I get annoyed about is the vet taking over the case not letting me know!

Re: Wasting my time...

[quote user="amanda nicholls"]I can sympathise, similar situation last week where I was involving RSPCA for a neglect case, I eventually got a reply from the client that the cat had been treated at another local vet. Of course I didn't believe the client because everybody knows all vets follow the GTPC and inform the previous vet and get a history (which is what I told the client). Contacted the local vet the next day (just in case) and they confirmed they had treated the cat!!

Thanks for wasting everyones time, you should know better blah blah blah.

This particular practice drives me mad, they never inform us when clients transfer or request histories and yes I have spoken to one of the partners about this.

Good to have a rant!

Re: Wasting my time...

We find getting information from the PDSA to be like getting blood out of a stone. Rescue related practices seem to consider themselves above communicating with commercial practices!

Quite common to find some of our no shows and 'inactive' clients have made their way to the PDSA. On the few occasions we are asked they get sh+tty with us if the history is not with them in minutes.

It does give me a small degree of satisfaction to send a Friday pyo or fracture their way because the owners are registered!
