I just keep a spreadsheet on my &nbsp;jobs, costs, mileage and income every day and thats it. I have an accountant because I don&#39;t have time to do my own accounts or the intelligence/will to bother finding out&nbsp;how to prepare a set of accounts with a profit and loss account, balance sheet, assets sheet etc but I&#39;m sure there must be a book or computer program that will guide you through it. IMO the most useful aspect of a professionally prepared set of accounts attached to your tax return is that HMRC are&nbsp;more likely to accept it and not come sniffing round. They can save you money and hassle as they are more likely to know what HMRC will accept or not.</p> <p>We have been fleeced by a local accountant. We engaged him on the grounds that you don&#39;t sh*t on your own doorstep. He did/does!</p> <p>Get quotes.
