Before you ask, yes I do advertise and

Re: Advertising.

I think that the Bristol Yeoolow pages is the largest single one in the UK, and I calcualated one year that there was in excess of £65,000 woth of adverts.I am not sure who tht actaually benefits, but my dream has to always say so, but then I think just one call??

Re: Advertising.

[quote user="Evelyn Barbour-Hill"]

too true, I'm amazed by how expensive yellow pages ads are. After not getting much business last year, I told the rep I only wanted the basic listing next year and then amazingly the same package as last year is available at half the price for next year! I wish we could all agree to stop advertising especially in the yellow pages!

I have found most clients do come to me through word of mouth or my website and at least with word of mouth you should get the type of clients you want.

The other way to tackle it – and this applies in the "cheap vets" thread too – is to indulge in some aggressive advertising of one's own.

But in the end nobody gains except the people who sell advertising. I was saying this way back when advertising was first permitted, and everybody nodded sagely and said "yes, of course" and then went off to compose their quarter-page ad for "the caring compassionate practice" complete with clip art of dogs, cats and nurses.
