&lt;p&gt;No wonder they have problems finding staff then! Although they will often pay a higher rate if they are desperate and have a last minute shift that they can&amp;#39;t fill. I earnt the same - &amp;pound;180 for doing a six hour Saturday day shift, and only had to see one patient!&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Your are getting way more than I am, as the boss of a small independent practice.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;I employed a vet for what I could afford, but he went elsewhere because I could not afford to pay enough.&amp;nbsp; The practice is now better off and I employ others for more in his place.&amp;nbsp; Discuss it with the boss, they may be willing to increase the rate.&lt;/p&gt;

For example if they pay your rent or even your RCVS subs then they are fixed so would reduce your hourly rate.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;I&amp;#39;m not explaining myself well. Say you did a 40 hour week with a package worth &amp;pound;30,000 but &amp;pound;6,000 benefits (&amp;pound;4000 rent, &amp;pound;1000 CPD, &amp;pound;1000 subs) so you earn &amp;pound;24,000 cash. If you halved your hours to 20 per week, but still got the same benefit package then you have a salary of &amp;pound;9,000 but all the other perks. It looks like you are earning less but in fact it&amp;#39;s exactly half. &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Unless we know your total package then it becomes meaningless. &lt;p&gt;I&amp;#39;m on a part-time contract at the moment (work about 32 hours a week + extras covering holidays&amp;nbsp;and where needed etc), I&amp;#39;m only&amp;nbsp;2 years qualified and my salary works out about just over&amp;nbsp;&amp;pound;12/hour. I&amp;#39;m not paid any more per hour than I would be on what&amp;nbsp;my full time salary would be&amp;nbsp;for doing a 40-hour week.&lt;/p&gt;
