Is it still illegal/frowned upon/an offence punishable by death - to recommend specific pet insurance to clients? Unless your clinic has done one of the courses as some do with petplan for staff training?

The only price rise we have had in the last 18 months has been VAT!

Referral centres around here are tending to compete more and offer more fixed price surgery. We refer quite a lot but always have so no real change there.

Funny how they can afford to have Stephen Fry doing the voice over for their ads and can afford to advertise widely on TV. I suspect this is where a lot of the extra expense is!

If you do that you're acting as a finacial advisor and need to be qualified and registered with the FSA to do this.

I believe this is quite expensive. I contacted the FSA to ask if I could put affiliate links on our website to insurers (Petplan pay about £25 for every policy taken out via an affiliate link, others pay between £10 and £40 ish I think) and was told that this would equate to acting as a broker. To register as a broker would cost £1500 per year. Mind you i come accross scores of websites (both vets and non-vet ones) that have affiliate links and I can't believe that all of those are paying the FSA for the privilige. Either most people are getting away with it or I was misinformed.

Re: Pet insurance...

What's a good place to get the training?

Re: Pet insurance...

Yup - if you are selling a specific insurance you need to be registered as an insurance salesman (and trained and qualified and pay your subs etc - SIMPLES)
