Hi Emily,

I am in a similar position and am about to start maternity leave next week. I don't know about the 'rules' about CPD but I am planning (once my life has settled back down again!) to do a few webinars to keep myself up to date. I registered with several of the recent free ones on the Webinar Vet but ran out of energy to actually do them at the time. As far as I know they are still available on the site and hopefully will still be there when I have some free time (which, if you listen to parents, will be in about 18 years time!)

Remember it is an average of 105 hours over 3 years - even if you did nothing for a whole year it's quite doable. You could always do a free webinar or two or some of the free Dechra stuff in front of a computer.

Even on maternity leave you are still employed as a vet and if you have any other perks of the job (like a CPD budget) it continues despite you not physically being at work.

Congrats on the bump!

Re: CPD requirements whilst on maternity leave

Congratulations ! and enjoy your baby.

Re: CPD requirements whilst on maternity leave

For a 'normal' maternity leave you aren't working, so I wouldn't expect you need to do any CPD. Just note the reason for the break on your record card.

If you have an extended period away from practice I would expect you would need to undertake a bit of refresher CPD or 'seeing practice' before heading back to the battle lines.

I may be wrong but I would doubt there is any official rules - afterall, CPD is not yet compulsory. The system is simply there to ensure you are keeping up to date.
