I can't say I know exactly what the rules would be but I'm sure that would depend on whether your practice was registered with the PSS or not. If not then your CPD isn't compulsary anyway. If you are then it would depend on the RCVS - good luck on getting any answers there. I think if I was off for any prolonged period of time I would probably want to try to get some CPD in such as the online stuff to keep my brain ticking over (it needs to keep ticking over - I'm afraid it would turn off otherwise). Having said that your probably going to be busy enough with all the new family stuff. Remember you can record reading journals and loads of other stuff as CPD not just attending courses.

Maybe there is a market for family friendly CPD.

Assuming you go on maternity leave and intend to return to work then I would assume your requirement continues. Remember it is an average of 105 hours over 3 years - even if you did nothing for a whole year it's quite doable. You could always do a free webinar or two or some of the free Dechra stuff in front of a computer.

Even on maternity leave you are still employed as a vet and if you have any other perks of the job (like a CPD budget) it continues despite you not physically being at work.

For a 'normal' maternity leave you aren't working, so I wouldn't expect you need to do any CPD. Just note the reason for the break on your record card.

If you have an extended period away from practice I would expect you would need to undertake a bit of refresher CPD or 'seeing practice' before heading back to the battle lines.

I may be wrong but I would doubt there is any official rules - afterall, CPD is not yet compulsory. The system is simply there to ensure you are keeping up to date.
