Our long-suffering scales seem to have started to under-read - based on bags of food - and I was wondering whether scales (a) can be re-set, and (b) whether it is worth the effort?
They are fairly important

Re: Scales
It is possible to recalibrate scales.
Am I right in saying that temperature and humidity affect the accuracy? A guy who makes strain gauges told me?? They look like a sealed unit though??

Re: Scales

It is possible to recalibrate scales. You will need to know the maximum weight that the scales will read to and the increments which the scales read in.

You will also need to have accurate weights to carry out this procedure (100-150K) usually, therefore, we recommend that you return the scales to us as we are happy to recalibrate scales in house

And why do we refer to a pair of trousers, pants, shorts, knickers etc. - but not a pair of bras - the English language is very odd.

Re: Scales
Silly though it sounds just check the edges/corners are not just touching the wall
The usual free-standing scales in the waiting room, consulting room or wherever are frequently a pain, as they get knocked, tripped over and some dogs are unhappy to get on them, then fall off, or trail a leg, making the reading invalid. Also difficult to keep clean underneath.

The occasional practice I have came across on my travels have their scales sunk into a hole in the floor such that the top surface of the scales is flush with floor level.

Brilliant idea !

Re: Scales

Isn't it funny how we still refer to a pair of scales even though the technology has moved on. Our Shore-line scales in the waiting room are a pain for this. We have a cheaper set in the consulting room. They are smaller but bomb-proof.

If they are old and faulty probably not worth the hassle. the ones in my room are only about £280 in the JAK catalogue and have worked well for 10 years.

Re: Scales

I have found that the cables comes loose, especially as they enter the scales unit. I have had to resolder loose connections a few times and that extends the life. You might be able to get them serviced by the manufacturers or someone like BUrtons.
