We were not even considering paid advertising with them (in fairness they have made it clear that no charges are going to be made). Word of mouth is our main advertising.

I am the resident vet for www.petstreet.co.uk , we have just over 12,000 members, which has taken some time to get to and the bosses have always billed us as the largest pet owner social networking site in the UK. So, I doubt The Pet Owners Association really does have 15,000 members, certainly not active ones anyway.

Advertising on this sort of thing for local businesses is unlikely to be of any use anyway as the members will be from all over the country, unless they can do you some fancy algorithms so you only advertise to local people, but if you are thinking about that you should look at FaceBook first!

Sorry - scam is a little strong. We get numerous phone calls from producers of brochures (local doctors and charities) asking for advertising money! The part I am concerned about is the claim to have 15000 members. That seems to make it a very big 'community' that vets seem unaware of!.

The email pushes Bob Ingram's name. Not at all sure who he is. The only Bob ingram I know was the contestant on 'Who wants to be a millionaire' caught cheating!

Hmm - well if you look at the activity in the forums, it's quite slow (though not completely dead). I don't think its a scam, but certainly if I were running a veterinary practice, and was invited to advertise on there, my answer would be no, unless it was very, very, very, very cheap.
