I’ve committed myself to giving a talk to a group of Shetland Sheepdog (Sheltie) enthusiasts and I’m fishing for any interesting information or references anyone might have about the breed (or collies in general) particularly with ref

Re: Information about Shelties please!

http://www.laboklin.co.uk/laboklin/showGeneticTest.jsp?testID=8032

Heterozygotes have an increased risk of reaction, while homozygotes will pretty much react to every drug you can think of, past or present - the breed websites have a loooong list of possible reactions. most of the drugs listed are pretty much no brainers, but it does mean that any client with a new pup in the 'at risk' breeds will be very resistant to pretty much any meds you might need to use, for pretty much any ailment.

There is a lab that advertises the gene testing, and I think they are doing very well if the various forums are representative.

I must confess to a massive dose of scepticism

Re: Information about Shelties please!

Thanks, Arlo.

Re: Information about Shelties please!

Jill Maddison

Re: Information about Shelties please!

Hi Niall,

I had to answer an enquiry about MDR1 a while back, and found Jillm Maddison at the RVC very helpful.

I my still have the papers she sent me too, although I don't think any of them specifically mention Shelties, if you want to contact me privately.
