Even assuming the availability of a dead horse, to prepare one properly involves a lot of work and takes several months

Re: Skeleton in the cupboard

Thanks for the comment. Yes, York to Qatar might be a bit far but already I have suggested to them that if they find a suitable skeleton in Europe, perhaps it could travel back in an empty stall of the race-horses returning from Europe. Generally cargo pallets carry a 3-stall horse unit and it is not unusual for one stall in a consignment to be empty. Would give the receiving airport AH vet something to think about! Would it have a passport, I wonder?

My husband works as a zooarchaeologist and they have quite an extensive reference collection.... including a horse skeleton.
Not in the country nor, probably, within reasonable freighting distance.

Any way, I have sent the suggestions to the organisers and passed the problem back to them. Thank you all for the help.

Probably totally impractical but there was an article in (?) Vet Times recently where, for similar reasons (expense, availability etc) a speaker actually drew/painted the skeleton and other anatomical features onto the surface of a live horse. Probably not that ideal if the talk is being given in the Sultan's Palace obviously!

He (she?) must be a very VERY important speaker!

[/quote]

Not really; it is just "Tim is a pathologist, I am sure that he will know where to obtain a skeleton" and a local organiser strides away dusting that particular problem from her hands. A cabal of horse owners is as bad as a cohort of dog or cat 'experts' any day. The irony is that with this country pouring so much money into racing in UK and Europe we cannot afford to buy ourselves a skeleton. Life ain't fair!

Re: Skeleton in the cupboard

He (she?) must be a very VERY important speaker!

Re: Skeleton in the cupboard

Thank you for the various suggestions. I shall follow them up but much will depend upon the likes and dislikes of the speaker. I have asked the organisers to find out more but otherwise I seem to have been left holding the baby!
