What I ended up doing was paying an extra £200 in December which was financed by the staff themselves as part of a (generous) pay rise. This way noone felt their pay had been docked to fund their bonus, all the staff get more money at Christmas and I no longer feel resentful in December which is always our worst month.

Giving money away was never my strongest attribute.

We have a good night out as well. £100 - £250 depending on seniority / time worked for us & loyalty gets rewarded. More if we have had a good year. Only if someone has been useless would they get less but they would still get something. Someone who has done exceptionally well would get more. We always give in November so everyone has the extra money BEFORE Christmas to spend on shopping / parties etc. I know it doesn't compare to bankers bonuses but I hope it is a nice pre-Christmas present for everyone.

Ian

PS Odd time of year to be thinking about it?
