It was soooo busy - you can tell when it is a bank holiday weekend eh?
Anyway, thought I'd share my interesting afternoon with you - and it may give someone else a head start if they get something similar.
The day became very interesting

Re: froggy day
sorry - photo didn't copy.....oops....
You can't copy images directly into the forum. You need to make sure they are saved on your own computer, then click the filmstrip icon when composing your forum post, which opens the 'insert media' window. Then click 'browse' adjacent to upload media, to find and select the image on your own computer.

Re: froggy day

sorry - photo didn't copy.....oops....

Re: froggy day

The skin was really really tough - didn't expect that at all! Ended up cutting with scissors as had to apply so much pressure with scalpel it scared me! Did a midline skin incision but paramedian through muscle as v large midline vein which was very easy to see. No sub cut fat.

The anatomy was all very familiar and large enough to handle without too much stress - I've operated on very 'ickle geckos so fairly easy compared to that. The bladder reduced fairly easily once I could push and pull at the same time!

Continuous midline closure with 5-0 vicryl and then everting skin sutures with nylon. I have no idea how long amphibian skin takes to heal so I have extrapolated from reptiles and suggested 6 weeks until sutures out.....

Haven't got my photos from the nurse yet but he looked much like this....... and about the same size and weight as an adult rat.

I'll let you know how he does....

Re: froggy day

Wow - most impressed, big respect!

Can you give us more details of the surgery - how thick is the abdominal wall, must have been a very cautious incision, what about wound closure - muscles separate from skin, how many layers, suture types?

Flippers crossed he does well.
