In my younger more single days I have traveled a long way for one of those. (Imagine a Jack russel with a car!)

Do an 'opportunity cost' calculation and charge accordingly; otherwise you're actually losing money - unless you particularly want to do the visit (pretty owner, that sort of thing )

Also, what is the position with the RCVS if we enrol (you may not in this case, may just be a second opinion) a client 90 miles away? they state we should be able to attend an emergency in a reasonable time frame. What if another emergency phones while you are 90 miles away ??

Do you really want the business? 90 miles is an awfully long way for one animal. What if they like you, what if they want you to be their vet, how do you feel about driving 90 miles at 3am to attend a colic. If it was me I'd politely decline.

I normal charge 50p mile for work related mileage, so £90 for travel plus you professional time, of say 1.5 - 2 hours each way, plus the consult. can they bring the horse to you?
