I got a message from Mcaffee to be on the look out for scam emails claiming to be collecting charity donations for Japan - havnt seen any yet myself

Use these calls as free therapy. Tell the person at the other end of the phone all your problems, just keep them on the phone for as long as you can. Someone has written a book about the long email conversations he has had with a Nigerian gentleman trying to give him lots of money! It was on Radio 4. Brilliant!

A previous practice I worked at (corporate) got the till roll scam. Unfortunately several branches fell foul as once they had a name they considered it an order (one reason not to answer the phone with "you're speaking to.."). I think head office took them to court in the end.

But they still tried it on the next year!!!

Ho yus. There's one round here, every year, tries to get you to "sponsor" in a non-existent public service schools programme. For several years they made out they were calling on behalf of the Fire Service. In 2010, they made out it was the Police! One has to admire their cheek, if nothing else.

If they are not prepared to put their offer in writing in the post, it's a scam. Sometimes it's a scam even if they do put it in the post.

Thank you for this! These phone calls can be a real pain (not to mention expensive). Someone phoned my wife this morning to 'confirm our appointment tomorrow at 10 am about new windows'!

Only problem is our house is due for demolition soon!
