Interestingly my wife used to work in the NHS and she said you can generally tell the seniority of the Dr by the stethoscope. Jr Doctors - around the neck because 1) I am a doctor and 2) I have not been a doctor long enough to know it looks prickish. SHO in the pocket because 1) they now realise it looks prickish and 2) they are now fed up with being a Dr anyway and consultants don't carry one because they know there will always be a prick around too scared to say no.

Glad I'm not the only one who wears it! Have to otherwise either I forget where I left it or a nurse nicks it then I'm left with the crappy cheap one that I can't hear anything thru or has a missing ear piece so it nearly ruptures your ear drum.

Got as far as the local spar car park wearing it but fortunately realised before ambling into the shop to get lunch

This is a normal part of the ageing process of vets! Loss of memory, concentration and the ability to recognise clients when they don't have their pet with them.

New section to GtoPC to be introduced next year:

"All vets shall, at all times be dressed suitably for the situation they are in to prevent the general public seeing them as self-promoting tw*ts. It shall be seen as gross professional misconduct to be seen in public (except in an emergency situation such as an out of hours visit) wearing scrub suits. Wearing of stethoscopes around the neck will be seen as unacceptable as it may cause confusion in the minds of the general public between veterinary surgeons and arrogant, show off human medical operatives.

Changes to the PSS to conform to this will be introduced later in the year."

He was on BBC Breakfast news the other morning in his scrubs. I turned over. After that Tonight programme where they gave vets false history and slated them for offering tests or treatment to not eating animals that he know were healthy but the owners were told to lie to the vets.

Oh dear God, he's written a book now too.

Many years ago I had the pleasure of working alongside him when he spent a few months locumming in the clinic I was working in. I got the impression even then that he was more interested in being famous than his veterinary career.

Got to admire his self promotion skills though - he puts Madonna to shame (another who has become disproportionately successful off the back of very limited talent)

I would imagine the scrub-wearing is his 'brand' - devised by some overpaid, pretentious marketing bod. You will note that he never has the balls to wear them to BSAVA congress

As for the Tonight programme, he really proved that he's the type to turn up to the opening of an envelope. Any professional worth his/her salt would have turned that gig down as soon as they knew of the deceit involved.
