This is my first post so please bear with me!
I'm a veterinary surgeon from Portugal but have been working in the UK the past 2 years. Because I want to pursue a residency in the near future I cannot commit to a long term job so

Re: Advice on Locum Life

hi ana, have been a locum for 6yrs (and vet for 28!) . i always tell the locum agencies what rate I want they then negotiate with the practice for their bit- this will vary depending on hours and if any out of hours. always check on EXACTLY what the accomodation is like - there are some true horrors out there! i have found shona hostler and carlton professional and synergy to be very good.

good luck!

Re: Advice on Locum Life

Thank you Mark, Hannah and James!

Only had a reply from Recruit 4 Vets. In the meantime I registered with Carlton and Jobline and I think that's plenty of agencies.

Today I've also created a profile on the vet surgeon's new locum register!

Re: Advice on Locum Life

Your locum agencies should advise you on current rates of pay and I think previous postings have mentioned specific rates. You can of course take days off for cpd courses but you will not get paid for them and likewise, no cpd budget. I do not have a contract, but I really must get round to doing one- so you have in writing the notice period applicable to both parties (see lots of postings about contracts being cancelled at short notice here).

Re: Advice on Locum Life

Don't forget Carlton Professional.
