I've commented elsewhere here about this, but some recent CPD suggested that pre-op and repeating every 90 minutes for orthopaedics was adequate cover for this type of surgery. No post-operative antibiosis would/should then be necessary. If so, then it should cost no more than, say a week's worth of potentiated amoxycillin tablets.

One of the centres we use for orthopaedic referrals use this protocol the other one does not.

A practice I recently locumed for use it for all orthopaedic ops, including every 90 minutes for 24 hours post op, not sure why??

have you tried your local pharmacist or one of the online pharmacies and write them a prescription?

other i/v options would include crystapen, zinacef, amoxil, marbocyl, baytril etc. if you need an i/v drug

After discussion on this forum I almost never use it now, good old s/c injection of Synulox which reaches therapeutic serum levels in about an hour I understand. That way I am working within cascade regs without any doubt.

I used to use it a lot for really badly infected dentals that had had no pre op antibiosis, I just inject synulox on the morning of admission now.

Synulox or Noroclav? By the time you've faffed mixing up the Augmenting I doubt blood levels that much difference.

There's always Crystapen, if IV floats your boat.

Remember that you can put Penicillin, Oxytet, Lincoject & Marbocyl IV with a vet licensed product [some not in dogs, admittedly].
