The downside is that it isn't reconised by the RCVS. The CertAVP I found to be very theoretical with much administrative/management discussion for the A module and the clinical modules actually didn't require much in-depth knowledge. I was a little disappointed that it wasn't more clinically challenging as it is the RCVS recognised qualification.

It all depends how good the equine GPcert is and whether you are looking to gain equine experience solely to make you a better clinician, or a recognised qualification with broader learning (that may not be entirely relevant) that ispotentially better regarded by peers.

Re: CertAVP or GpCert(Equine)?

Wren,

You are just lucky you have the choice!

Us budding ophthalmologists have none.

Personally it depends what you hope to achieve. RCVS will allow you to use "GPCert" after your name, but refuse to publish it in the register or acknowledge it as a further qualification.

Hmmm, smacks of nepotism to me........
