It should be a more effective way of spending money than a Yellow Pages advert, that may only lead to 1 new client per year, if they're looking for vets 'cold' (ie not using recommendations

Re: Google Adwords

And of course - Googgle Places is FREE and an absolute must. Mostp ople on use hte 'front end' however when you use it's whole capacity, link it to FB and website etc - it's a hugely powerful tool. did i say FREE - there i've said it again!

Re: Google Adwords

Facebook works brilliantly providing it is done correctly. This MUST form one huge pillar of any veterinary practice client attraction and client management policy.

Google Adwords is excellent as well - need to be very specific and look at your practice demographic. For example if you have a penchant for exotics or German Shephers or a niche of some description - then you'll do really well using GA

Re: Google Adwords

Google is becoming unusable! I have just tried to get a website for an accountancy practice. Gave up by page 8 of google search. Lots of townpages, accessplace sites that go to long lists of accountants, not one has the practice I am looking for on page .

Google is just getting far too down the route of money grabbing with very little 'customer convenience'. It seems likely that people will (may be are) go elsewhere to find local information.

Funnily enough it looks as if the quickest way of getting information may be the phone book! I seem to remember this is how it used to be!!!!

Re: Google Adwords

If you do Google ads correctly you will only pay for people that visit your website and only people actually looking for a vet. Its a good idea to choose your keywords so that your advert only shows to people who are actually looking for a vet in your area. You don't want to pay for people accidentally clicking on your ad when they live miles away etc or even those looking for a cheap vet if you are at the other end of the market . You can also alter your ad according to what they are searching for eg. if people enter 'cheap vet southampton' you can give information about your costs in the advert. If they enter 'good vet southampton' you can put more information about accreditation etc.

Facebook ads are less targeted, you can find pet owners in your area but you can't tell which of them are actually looking for a vet. Used with a good social media campaign they can be very helpful to build up followers, build trust and eventually get new clients. Perhaps more of a long term plan?

Re: Google Adwords

Sorry I didn't make myself clear but obviously the search results are Googles' core function and free I did do this for 1 month for a personal client of mine as I do website designing in my spare time (off and on) to get it launched but didn't cost us much IIRC :)

I guess only you can decide what your budget is - thus the more the merrier. By advertising it should allow you to climb google ranks a bit.

Also as an aside have you applied google analytics to your site - makes very interesting reading :)

Re: Google Adwords

Thanks Richard.

The sites at the top (with the pale background) and the ones on the right are the google adwords so you're using them already!

The ones below that are found by the search engine crawling websites and cost nothing - that is where Search Engine Optomization of a website is important.

Yes, personally I don't click on adwords within websites much, but if your contact details are shown via Adwords on the website of a local community site or dog trainer then that can't be a bad thing. It only costs money when someone clicks on your advert to be directed to your website so adverts that are ignored cost nothing. Furthermore people may telephone without clicking the link so the advert has done its job for free.

I suppose the question is more about how much is it worth to get someone to look at your website? Once they've found it then it is up to the website to try to convert them to a client.

Is it worth paying up to 50p per lead, £1.00, £2.00? How big a daily budget is it worth allowing for this? £5.00 per day will get you 50 clicks at 10p each but you may not appear very often if other people are willing to bid more. £5.00 will only get you 1 click per day - once that's spent you'll not appear again that day and the click may lead nowhere but you'll be at the top of all the searches

Re: Google Adwords

I never look at google adwords on websites - The only time I look is on the google seach results but maybe I am in a minority?

Most people would use say google to search for vet and then location (I would think) so I would target those searchers either at the top of the seach result or at the side :)
