We frequently have people complaining about being up all night with for example a caesar or GDV etc and then having to work the following day. How do people manage with children who can keep you up night

Re: When family and career clash

I agree as an employee (ok, ok, assistant) it's not always easy to work this out, but I totally agree with talking to management about this. Maybe temporary part time work, or a more creative schedule; you know your workplace more than I do. I think your boss would prefer you not be dangerous to the clientele, either. Doesn't do his practice or your reputation any good, I agree with you 100% on that one.

Well, if you are an assistant, any employer with any sense would notice how you were, ask what the trouble was, and make suitable re-arrangements.

Re: When family and career clash

Yes I try that but its not the same, I also reduce my surgical ambitions to much more routine work and postpone work until a better time but between, illness, bedwetting, nightmares and mis behaviour, disturbed nights sleep are very common. (I am still talking about the children here) How many employers would be happy with me sleeping every afternoon?

Oh and working time.... once you go home the REAL work begins!

Losing a few consults is cheaper than defending yourself in court against a malpractice case, i think.

I know a lot of vets sign waivers about working time...maybe it's not the best idea to do that.

Re: When family and career clash

If it comes to realizing you're dangerous, it's time to block off the afternoon consults and sleep.
