The problem for us mere large animal vets is that if you take the salary and divide it by the total hours [including on call] it comes to relatively little.

I do like the idea of seeing what they will offer, but you should have negotiated before you did the weekend, you are in a much stronger position! I'd want at least £350 (£150 for sat and the night, £200 Sunday).

I'm paid £400 if I do Friday pm to Monday am. However best to give them the first call. You can always decline and suggest something else but if they call higher than you would have asked, go homewith a smile :) you could even assume they are calling lower than they would ultimately settle for and push for a liitle more !

How about one and half days pay for the saturday pm and sunday daytime pro rata based on your usual salary, then for the nights something like £50 for each night plus £50 for each client seen. That is what I charge as a locum , although I very rarely do any OOH.
