I can appreciate the value of marketing one's identity when it comes to sales - take McDonalds 'Golden Arches' for example, they are very good at telling me to avoid, avoid avoid!!!

But why should the RCVS feel they have anything to sell? They are a 'regulatory body' after all. If this is about promoting identity and message, maybe if they spent the time and money on getting the message right, then they wouldn't have to worry about what the logo looks like.

I agree with Evelyn - I think this is all just a big straw-clutching exercise and is a total waste of our subscription fees. (And besides, what was wrong with the old logo in the first place?)

Well put, but vetsurgeon.org does need a nominated member to stand for Council. You won't change things by external criticism.

The RCVS is not a commercial business desperate to sell something but a body earning reputation solely by actions not trite logos.

Good idea - the difficulty is that most people here cannot give the time to such a commitment.

Do any of the existing members of the council watch or post here? If so ''reveal yourselves please'' (in a non-lock-up able way!!!!). If not, why not?

I hate them all but I could live with C were it not for the stupid words attached. (Is that what is meant by a "strapline"? Somebody more interested in these things, please enlighten me).

Perhaps the RCVS should wait for a new logo until it is a modern, forward-looking, friendly, approachable, highly professional committed organisation. Until then work to change the organisation not wasting time on tacky looking logos!

I don't speak for the RCVS, but I would very much doubt they think that for a second. A logo is just one of a number of things that affect people's perception of an organisation.

And it stands to reason that a change of logo is likely to have significantly less immediate impact in terms of changing people's preconceptions, as opposed to the impact it has forming people's first impressions.

Nevertheless, an organisation's visual identity, and the message it communicates with that identity, is very important. Think of all the money that commercial organisations spend on getting their logos right. They aren't just doing it for a laugh. They are doing it because it can be effective.
