Expensive scam if they are giving away a free USB stick? They must expect a good hit rate. Most scams have a very low hit rate but send to an enormous number of people for virtually no cost, so if 1 in a million suckers give up their bank details, they still do ok.

Autotrader is full of scams - I was trying to sell a car recently - got loads of e mails 'I will buy your car at the asking price - no need to come and see it. I will send you the money, plus some extra money for shipping it abroad - if you would just send a cheque to the 'shipping agents' to cover this....!'

Same common scam when selling my house in France -'We will buy your house - no need to view (!) - will send the money plus legal fees - if you would just send a cheque to my lawyer to cover this...!'

If it sounds too good to be true, then it almost certainly is.

had the same thing arrive in the post, and came on here to ask the same questions you did! Had my suspicions - especially getting a 'free USB stick' thrown in...

Avoid like the plague...

an aside - another scam I came across while looking to buy 2nd hand car off autotrader - a too good to be true price for a really top spec vehicle - but only an email address to contact the o - result : an email explaining how the vehicle is in Spain and will be shipped to you within 10 days of payment!!! When the email pleads 'this is 100% legitimate' - one starts to wonder!!

Yes, it appears to be a fake site, data mining site. The website redirects to a site ending in .exe, which is rarely good news. I registered with a fake name (Mr. Some Guy, if i have stolen your identity i apologize. ) and got sent to a picture of a website, links don't work. Privacy policy says they share your data with only co-owners (whoever that is) and there's no copyright notice or company name.

Verdict: scam. Avoid.

Extremely suspicious!!! Curiosity killed the cat - I suggest binning it and someone putting a warning in a veterinary publication... The letter doesn't even have a name on it, just a squiggle...

I repeat a warning - DO NOT PLUG UNKNOWN USB STICKS INTO YOUR COMPUTER, especially dodgy ones that arrive unrequested in the post!!!!!

I tried googling vve and cpd as well as the whole name. No luck. Free cpd does exist, but it's usually sponsored by one of the big drug or food companies. Undertheskin.com, for instance, is a bit of an infomercial but a good summary of skin diseases. Pfizer, i think that was.

Is there a link or a website on that flash drive? I'd be happy to look it up, i've got a mac at home so i'm safe from most everyday viruses.

Run it on a non-practice PC with good anti virus first!!

Not had one but can always do with usb sticks if no use.
