It turns out that when I issued the Passport, I had spelled the dogs name incorrectly (our records said Miyah instead of Mayah.)
And there is certainly no debate with regards to the 'Plonkers' comment, Bob! (Though I was calling them much more colourful things this am haha.)

Re: Idiocy

Just for peace of mind - just because it seems logical that you are safe from complaint does not mean the client is going to think the same way.

If they consider you filled in the certificate without due diligence they could in theory at least consider you fair game.

TBH I haven't bothered. I have issued another passport, again in blue ink with appopriate amendment - owners seem happy with this!

Can't see where the VDS could be involved here, the bad advice was from a 3rd party and the name is not important only the chip number. However I issue a disclaimer with every passport that the client signs which states that they have checked the details, they are happy with them and they understand that if there's a problem once they've walked out the door it is not my responsibility, although I will correct/re-issue FOC. Saved my bacon once with a client whose passport expired after I'd verbally agreed to send him a rabies vaccine reminder and forgot. The disclaimer clearly stated that although we could send reminders if requested these were not foolproof, and ensuring boosters were done on time was solely the client's responsibility. We lost a client but he was miserable, demanding so and so anyway.

Re: Idiocy
Get phoning VDS of course!!!!!!
Precisely my point to the owner, hence why they seem happy just to have a new passport and that be the end of it.

Re: Idiocy
Probably would have less trouble! - I have a Swiss client who passed through immigration control 3 times before she noticed the passport had expired 6 months earlier. No official outbound or inbound actually checked the dates only that the chip number was correct although it was in blue!

Re: Idiocy

If they had left it alone there would have probably been no problem after all as far as the authorities are concerned the pets name is really 985..............etc, etc. The names should match of course but in reality who is likely to notice as long as the microchip numbers are correct!!!
