Quite right.

Unfortunately the characters that made the profession what it was when I graduated would probably have heart attacks if they could see what has happened to the profession over the last few years. Legislation, non-vets owning practices, the dafter ideas from the RCVS etc etc.

The main positive side of the profession is that we are getting better at diagnosing and treating animals - that they would be chuffed to see!!!

May be we are not allowed to be characters any more!

I have had considerable comfort over the years reading the obits - 'qualified from London in 1945 etc' - suggests that my demise is a long way ahead. Gets very scary when 'qualified in 1984' starts to get closer!!!!!!

[/quote] Not necessarily the obits are a good place to find job vacancies if you want to keep ahead of the competition. With all the graduates being turned out at the moment we may need to be imaginative for job hunting in the near future.

Er, I'd forgotten the poll was single answer only when I posted it! I was really after the two or three things that you think would entice more members. Clearly the forums are the main attraction. Now I need to think how to best convey why the forums are a good reason to join...

I think you go through life stages. All your friends go to uni. All your friends get married. All your friends have children. Eventually all your friends start to die.

More relevant to the older members of the profession.
