They wanted me to drop everything because their dog was ill and wouldn't eat its biscuits. They lived a hundred yards up the road. I asked them to sit down and finished off surgery then accompanied them, walking, up to their house.

In the kitchen was a very stiff and smelly Great Dane lying on its side with biscuits hanging out of its mouth.

I confirmed the girls' fear and they disintegrated. It was 3 in the afternoon and they told me they'd just got back from a party to find the dog and the biscuits were from the previous day. It was a Thursday and their parents were away on holiday.

Then they told me that their parents had been worried the dog might die so they had already dug a hole in the garden, before they went on holiday. I went out side. There was a hole about 3 feet by 3 feet................................................ in a raised bed about 9 inches deep. The cadaver was stiff with legs in extension.
